I Don’t Understand: Responding to the Aurora Massacre

Fr. Doran Stambaugh is a singer-songwriter as well as a priest. He wrote the following song as a personal response to the July 20, 2012 shooting massacre in Aurora, Colorado, in which seventy people were wounded and twelve lost their lives at the hands of a lone gunman. In the face of such evil, we need to respond with both mind and heart, with understanding of the reality of our fallen world, and with lament for the pain and darkness we must live through. I am grateful for his words and music. — Holly Ordway

I Don’t Understand

… I don’t understand

What could move a man

To figure so much loss would somehow equal gain

Did you expect to come out ahead

Was that the plan?

It’s not easy to seek the Morning Star

Especially in the dark

When it seems so far away

But I thought you should know

His light is the show…

  1. That’s a nice finger style Americanaesque song. Very talented Doran!
