Not God’s Type – now available!
“It is a hard thing to look at the truth when it runs contrary to what you’ve always believed.”
“I was not looking for God. Make no mistake. I did not believe that He existed.” I was a college professor – logical, intellectual, rational – and an atheist.
But in the spring of my thirty-first year, “I was drawn, against my conscious will, and against my own inclination, to be interested in matters of faith.”
“I realized that my naturalistic worldview was inadequate to explain the nature of reality in a coherent way: it could not explain the origin of the universe, nor could it explain morality. On the other hand, the theistic worldview was both consistent and powerfully explanatory: it offered a convincing, rationally consistent, and logical explanation for everything that the naturalistic worldview explained plus all the things that the naturalistic worldview couldn’t.”
“The following pages are the account of how I turned from death to life…”
Advance praise for Not God’s Type: A Rational Academic Finds a Radical Faith
“Some topics in Apologetics are not often given the serious treatment they deserve. Ordway is a careful thinker who has, to her credit, found a pastorally sensitive but interesting approach to a pivotal topic. Though this kind of personal topic is often underserved, Ordway has dealt with it in a rigorous way.”
Dr. John Mark Reynolds, Director of the Torrey Honors Institute and Professor of Philosophy, Biola University. Author of When Athens Met Jerusalem: An Introduction to Classical and Christian Thought.
“An honest fencing with faith effecting an applicable defense of Christianity…a radical journey from atheism to orthodoxy.”
Rev. Fr. Neal Moquin, S.S.C., Adjunct Professor of Anglican History, Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary
All of the author’s proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the St. Michael’s by-the-Sea Apologetics Fund.

Congratulations, Holly! I look forward to reading your book and to passing it along to others. May God use it for His good purposes in many lives!
Congratulations, Holly, on the publication of your book. I, too, look forward to reading it. I am excited to read about your conversion story in addition to reading the work of a good writer. May God bless this endeavor.
I’m currently reading your book and enjoying it very much. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I’m a little more than halfway through Not God’s Type–taking my time because I have to ponder much of what Holly is saying. Two things, though–I was so moved when I came to the poetry chapter. I love John Donne’s “Batter My Heart Three-Person’d God” and to see how it moved Holly made my heart sing and my tears run. And I’ve dug out my Gerard Hopkins book so I can read more of this poet. I just finished the Interlude about being games director for VBS and shouting “God’s awesome. Yee-hah!” I’m sure there’s a link between Donne and such cheers for God and I love it!!
I guess one more comment is in order: it’s the idea of experiencing a ride down the coast with the wind in one’s face, the ocean crashing and the sun shining. For me, those are truly God’s fingerprints, his reminders of our being alive in a world that’s beautiful–even prodigally beautiful. “God’s awesome Yee-hah!”
Thank you all for your kind words and support! In the last two weeks I have been truly moved by the appreciation that people have shared for this little book, both online and in person.
Yee-hah!
Hi again, Holly! I just received your book in the mail and have started reading it. I am behind in my chores for the day because I couldn’t put it down.
I have many thoughts about it already, but for now I want to say that I greatly appreciate your clear and precise writing. And the way you tell your story effectively draws me in so that I am wondering, “What happened next??”
I look forward to continuing to read, as soon as I can.
Well done!
