A search for truth is great when truth is really what we seek. But when we hold faith as our highest virtue, truth can actually become the enemy. Reason only works when we care more about truth than we do about protecting our cherished beliefs. If truth threatens these beliefs reason is relegated to a role of distorting truth to fit what is most important to us. Truth is to the religious as rehab is to the addict.
